Hours of bloody clashes erupted between two tribes in Pakistan’s restive northwest bordering Afghanistan. At least 16 people were killed and 10 were injured.
The clash between Sani Ghel and Agharwal Ghel tribes took place at Dara Adam Ghel in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province around 5 pm local time on Monday.
Al Jazeera reported that among the 16 people killed, 13 were from the Sunny Ghel tribe and three were from the Agharwal Ghel. And 12 injured are from the Sunny Ghel tribe.
A conflict broke out over the ownership of a coal mine. Armed men of Sunny Ghel and Agharwal Ghel attacked each other with heavy weapons while demarcating the mine. When the two tribes refused to stop the war, troops were called in to control the situation.
Coal mine explosions kill many people in Pakistan every year. However, such clashes are rare in the country. The coal mines are located in northwestern and southwestern Balochistan provinces of Pakistan. Source: Al Jazeera
