France has promised to give more light tanks and armored vehicles to Ukraine to fight the Russian army.
The promise was made during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Sunday night. During this time, both discussed the strengthening of military assistance.
In a joint statement after the meeting, the two leaders said that in the next few weeks, France will provide training and equipment to several battalions of soldiers. Besides, dozens of light tanks and armored vehicles will also be given.
Both have called for renewed sanctions against Moscow to prevent Russia from continuing its illegal war.
Zelensky traveled to Germany after meeting with the country’s leaders and Pope Francis in Italy.
He visited Germany for the first time after the Russian attack on Ukraine. There he was awarded the Charlemagne Prize.
“Relations with Europe are strengthening, pressure on Russia is increasing,” Zelensky tweeted after arriving at Villacouble air base, southwest of Paris, after a trip to Germany.
