Hotel fire in Mecca, 8 Pakistanis died

A fire broke out in a hotel in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. At least 8 Pakistani Umrah pilgrims have died. Six Pakistanis were injured.

Pakistanis injured in the fire went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said, “Unfortunately, there was a fire in a hotel in Mecca.” Eight Pakistani nationals were killed and six injured. Our mission in Jeddah is contacting the local authorities to provide assistance to the victims and their families.
According to local media, the fire started from an electrical short-circuit in a room on the third floor of the hotel in Mecca. Later the fire spread to other rooms of the hotel.

Pakistan’s state-owned radio media Radio Pakistan says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Pakistani Umrah pilgrims. He directed the Ministry of Religion of the country to provide the best medical care to the injured and provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased
