Saudi Arabia’s much-awaited first space mission is set to begin in less than a week. Al Arabiya, the media of Saudi Arabia, citing the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Monday, said that on May 21, the country’s first Muslim female astronaut Raynah Barnaby and male astronaut Ali Al-Qarni are going to join the International Space Station (ISS) mission.
Two Saudi astronauts will make new history through this mission. The campaign will start from the United States.
NASA, the US government space research institute, said that this campaign is going to start in the middle of May 21. Astronauts will conduct 14 groundbreaking scientific experiments on microgravity. The information obtained by them will be of particular benefit to scientists and researchers, said SPA. In addition, the astronauts will participate in 3 educational and awareness-raising sessions with 12,000 Saudi students through an experimental live feed during the space mission.
Those concerned have expressed hope that the results of these tests will strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global position in space research. At the same time, future operations will also have a positive impact.
Saudi Arabia’s astronaut training program began in September 2022, part of the country’s Vision 2030 goals. The project aims to provide high quality education and training to future astronauts and engineers and prepare them for scientific experiments, international research and space missions.
