The United States has strongly criticized Israel for allowing Jews to build permanent settlements in an outpost in the West Bank.
The United States has warned Israel in the past not to take such a decision in the Homs outpost.
The head of Israel’s military’s Central Command signed an order on Thursday, The Times of Israel newspaper reported on Sunday. It allowed the Israelis to enter the Homs outpost. And through this, the opportunity to build a settlement has been officially given, the newspaper said.
The US State Department has repeatedly urged Israel not to make decisions that would escalate tensions with Palestine. In particular, Holmes was warned not to do anything at the outpost.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement, “We are deeply concerned by the Israeli government’s order to allow the construction of a permanent settlement in the northern West Bank outpost of Homs. According to Israeli law, the area was built on privately owned Palestinian land.
He said the order was inconsistent with a commitment made by the Israeli government in 2004 and more recently to the Biden administration.
A request to the Israeli embassy in Washington on this issue has not yet received a response.
But an Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the order was intended to allow Israelis to attend a religious school in Homs. He said that the Israeli government has no intention of rebuilding that place. In addition, the Israeli official said that they do not want to allow Israelis to live on the private land of the Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gevir visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday to announce that Israel was now “in charge”.
US State Department spokesman Miller said that Washington is concerned about such “provocative visits” and “exciting statements”.
