Turkey’s election board said one of the main rivals in Sunday’s presidential election, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was leading with 49.5 percent of the vote. However, as he did not get more than 50 percent of the votes, this election will be a run-off.
Ahmed Yener, head of the Election Board, said that 99 percent of the votes have been counted so far. Erdoğan’s rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu got 44.96 percent of the votes. Now all eyes are on Sinan Ogan, the third candidate of the electoral competition.
There are many speculations about which candidate he supports. He got 5.2% votes in this election. His meager capital has now become a major factor in the run-off election. The votes of his supporters will play an important role in deciding the victory or defeat between Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu. Sinan Ogan is now considered the ‘King Maker’.
But he said he would support opposition candidate Kilicdaroglu if he could exclude the pro-Kurdish HDP party from the coalition. Meanwhile, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a victory speech in front of the party’s headquarters in the capital, Ankara.
On the other hand, Kemal Kilicdaroglu has vowed to win the election run-off. He said that he will win the run-off election on May 28. Source: Perstoday.
