War is not an option: Taiwan’s president

On the seventh anniversary of his term as Taiwan’s president, Tsai Ing-wen said he would “maintain peace amid rising tensions with China.” Taiwan’s presidential election next year. Tsai clearly said, “Taiwan will not give in to China’s pressure or provocation.” He said, “During his tenure, the people of Taiwan have shown the world “Taiwan’s determination to defend itself.”
In his words, ‘Although Taiwan is surrounded by risks. But Taiwan in no way poses a risk to anyone. Rather, we are responsible for risk management. “Taiwan will work together to reduce the risk with democratic countries and communities around the world.”

The Chinese government is stepping up military pressure on the democratically-ruled island. Beijing claims it as its own territory. According to a statement by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the leaders of the G-7 countries at a summit in Hiroshima, Japan pledged their commitment to a peaceful solution to the Taiwan issue.

Tsai said, ‘Taiwanese officials are currently negotiating with US President Joe Biden’s administration about $500 million worth of arms support. Their aim is to accommodate the delay caused by Covid.

He emphasized the global significance of Taiwan’s supply chain, which plays an important role in the production of advanced semiconductor chips. Sai pledged to retain the country’s leading chip technology and research and development centers.

Taiwan is preparing for presidential elections
Taiwan is preparing for more aggressive actions from China ahead of the presidential election in January 2024. Sai cannot stand for re-election due to term limits.

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-eh, representing Taiwan’s main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party in the election, said on Saturday that “under Tsai’s leadership, Taiwan will have to choose between peace or war.” He pledged to preserve regional stability through “dialogue and exchange.”

Tsai also said, “All political parties in Taiwan should agree on maintaining peace.” Taiwan’s Vice President William Lai, of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, will run for president against Hou.
